TEACHINGS

God gives us vision or insight into His plans for our lives. We often watch that vision turn to dust, at which point we intensely engage God. After awhile the vision is fulfilled (often not quite as we saw it). Along the way, God has drawn us into deeper relationship with him.

Family Info

Dean and I celebrated our 25th anniversary last year and are looking forward to at least 25 more (because no one else would have either of us!). Dean is outnumbered by the females in our family who also include our daughters Malia and Lehua and the cutest little girl in the world, Kailey.

How did you come to HCKB?

We were checking out a few churches and heard about HCKB from several friends who started coming here. We came one Sunday 20 years ago and have been here ever since.

I started on staff kind of by default. Ralph asked if I wanted to help out the editor of our monthly bulletin (“You just have do a few phone calls every month.”) The next thing I know, the editor moved to the mainland, and Ralph asked if I wanted to take over her job. With fear and trepidation, I said yes and here I am still here but in another position! Isn’t God good?

Ministry Passion

I believe one of my most important jobs is connecting people to another. I try to find out some personal tidbit about someone like what their passion is or where they work or their hobbies and then connect them to someone who has similar interests or backgrounds. It’s such a blessing to see friendships form or connections made from that. And, although youth camps aren’t my thing, I love to keep in touch with our youth, both those who attend HCKB and those who don’t yet!

Biggest influence in your life over the past year and why:

Seeing God work through the United in Prayer efforts statewide. He certainly does answer prayers!

Then there’s Kailey who has complete trust that her family will always be there when she falls backward with total abandonment into our laps just as I should have complete trust in the Lord that He will always be there for me when I fall and who thanks Jesus for each kind of food and all the important people in her life.

Fun Stuff

Travels
God has blessed my husband and I with the privilege of going to places that I never thought about going to because of Dean’s annual business conferences. In the past few years we’ve been to the Bahamas, Puerto Rico, Orlando and Cancun. We were amazingly blessed to actually go to the Super Bowl in Houston last year as a reward for his job well done! Praise God for termites!

What you do for fun

  • By myself: watching the Food Network, reading a good book, shopping at the mall, shopping online, baking or making goodies (not necessarily in that order)
  • With others: spending time with my two-year-old granddaughter as learns about herself and the world, laughing over shared memories with family and close friends (and at my age, there are a lot of memories to share!), eating an outstanding dessert (in that order).

What makes you laugh
My cute Kailey smiley doing and saying surprising things
