TEACHINGS

God gives us vision or insight into His plans for our lives. We often watch that vision turn to dust, at which point we intensely engage God. After awhile the vision is fulfilled (often not quite as we saw it). Along the way, God has drawn us into deeper relationship with him.

Hometown

Kaneohe! Yup, I’m a native, even though sometimes I sound like I’m from the Mainland. I went to school in California and ended up working there, too. I was gone 16 years, so some of that California stuff rubbed off on me!

Family Info

I am married to my terrific husband Tim Ahern. We have two beautiful children, Trevor and Katie, a dog named Shelley, and two turtles named Christopher and Christina. We moved back to Hawaii from Gilroy, California, in January 2001, so that we could be closer to family. We all enjoy being closer to my family…especially due to the babysitting privileges! Just joking…well, maybe not completely!!!

How did you come to HCKB?

We were driving past and saw the sign at the bottom of the driveway. Later that day, my Mom suggested trying out Hope Chapel because she heard a lot of young people liked going there. We saw that as a sign from God and headed up here! We came, enjoyed the worship music and Ralph’s teaching and have been here ever since.

Ministry Passion

I love children. My passion is teaching children about Jesus. Tim and I were drafted into becoming children church teachers within a month of arriving. We moved on to become Department Coordinators in pre-school and now I’m the Nursery and Pre-School coordinator. It’s been a blast and I’ve been so blessed through this ministry. Oh yeah, I’m also a numbers geek, so I thoroughly enjoy being on the counting team when I’m able. It feeds the analytical side of me!

Biggest influence in your life over the past year and why

God has moved me through some big changes this last year. I moved from working at Queen’s Hospital as a performance improvement analyst to working here at Hope Chapel Kaneohe Bay in Children’s Church. Now I’m also working at Aikahi Elementary as a part time teacher. It’s been a lot of change for one year, but God has guided me and continues to provide me with strength and courage to move forward.

Fun Stuff

Travels
I’ve been to California, Washington, Vancouver, Las Vegas, Alabama, Wisconsin, and Colorado. I’d love to go outside the United States sometime…maybe on a mission’s trip one day.

Hobbies
I love to dabble in crafts. I especially enjoy scrap booking and stamping. Before we had children, Tim and I loved to work in our garden. We had 40+ rose bushes in our Gilroy yard. It was quite nice when they were in bloom…but then we had children and haven’t had the chance to get back into gardening. Hopefully, one day we can get into again as a family.

What you do for fun
Scrap booking, stamping, going to the movies, or hanging out with my friends and family. I also enjoy going hiking and camping.

What makes you laugh
My children. They say the funniest things! Funny movies also make me laugh, especially some of the old musicals with Gene Kelley.

Favorites

Books
I’m not much of a reader. When I take the time to read, I enjoy Jane Austin books.

Music
I like all kinds of music from Classical to Jazz to Christian Rock.

Movies
I enjoy romantic comedies, action, and musicals (the old ones with Gene Kelley and Grease). I like movies that have complicated plots. Of course, I also enjoy children’s movies like Toy Story and Babe.

TV
I enjoy HGTV shows like Design on a Dime. Mission Organization is also a favorite because I can dream about my house being organized. What Not to Wear is always funny to watch because I’m just like those people “before” the change! I also enjoy watching American Idol and So You Think You Can Dance with my children. We vote as a family. I’m also a Power Rangers fan. My son Trevor got me into that one!
